Fortescue Zero buys Team Penske for the Gen4 era of Formula E

Formula E will undergo a significant change in the 2026-27 season with the entry of Fortescue Zero Racing, which has acquired the operation of Team Penske to debut two Jaguar-powered vehicles in the new Gen4 era of the championship.

This addition increases the number of Jaguar-powered vehicles on the grid to six, alongside those from the official Jaguar TCS Racing team and Envision.

Team Penske, present in the competition since its inception in 2014, has made several changes of manufacturers, with the latest association named DS Penske that spanned from 2022 to 2026. The departure of DS at the end of the 2025-26 season had left the team without clarity about its future.

With this new chapter, Fortescue Zero, which has been an important player in the development of technologies for electric racing, now seeks to demonstrate its capability on the track. Gus Pichot, CEO of this energy growth, stated that entering Formula E represents a significant step in its motorsports history and a commitment to competition and innovation.

It is still unknown who the drivers for Fortescue will be, especially after Maximilian Gunther’s departure to Envision, while the future of his former teammate, Taylor Barnard, remains uncertain.

Ian James, head of Jaguar Racing, has expressed his satisfaction with the new partnership, assuring that this entry will strengthen Jaguar’s presence on the grid and reiterating the goal of continuing to lead technological development in electric vehicles.

The 2026-27 season promises a new chapter for Formula E, with increasing competition and the shared goal of winning, innovating, and redefining the boundaries of electric racing.
