Formula E shared 2020/21 races beyond the Saudi Arabia event, as FIA detailed on this year’s Motorsport Games.

With the postponement of the Santiago Formula E race, the series confirmed Saudi Arabia as the 2020/21 opener on February 26-27. All of the races mentioned on the original calendar beyond the Middle Eastern event then had to be formally confirmed.

The Santiago race has got a new date of June 5-6 – as it remains as a double-header event. There will be four rounds preceding the Chilean event, with Rome slated for April 10, followed by Valencia (April 24), Monaco (May 8) and Marrakesh (May 22).

The circuits in Rome, Valencia and Monaco are subjected to homologation, as the permanent Spanish circuit makes its official Formula E calendar debut, after serving as a testing ground for the last few seasons prior to the start of the year.

Among the races cancelled, Formula E noted that the Paris event won’t be held in 2020/21 due to the COVID-19 restrictions, whereas the races in Seoul (South Korea) and Sanya (China) remains postponed, with a decision to be taken later on.

Joining the above in the postponed and to be confirmed list are Berlin, London, Mexico and New York. Jamie Reigle, Chief Executive Officer of Formula E, said: “We are committed to delivering a global calendar that befits our first season as a World Championship.

“We are working closely with all our partners across teams, manufacturers, sponsors, broadcasters and host cities to adapt to external circumstances and ensure the health and safety of everyone involved. We will do so while maintaining what fans love most about Formula E: unpredictable racing, iconic locations and the blend of the real and virtual worlds, all underpinned by our race for better futures.”

The FIA, meanwhile, released further details on the second edition of Motorsport Games, which will take place in France at Paul Ricard on October 29-31. There will be a total of 18 disciplines, with the six from the original season staying on and 12 getting added.

The new Endurance category will see LMP3 cars being used for long-distance contest, whereas GT Sprint race for Pro Racers will complement the GT Cup of Pro-Am pairing. Another new addition will the rallying on the tarmac roads of Sainte-Baume.

The Rally2 machinery and two-wheel-drive Rally4 cars will be in use, with Historic Rally and Historic Regularity Rally joining the bill too. The off-road action will see Rallycross and Auto Slalom action as well for both senior and junior level drivers.

The Karting side will see Endurance and Sprint competitions for both junior and senior drivers. Tom Kristensen, President of the FIA Drivers’ Commission, said: “As President of the FIA Drivers’ Commission, I am glad to see this amazing event back on track.

“The FIA Motorsport Games is an exceptional opportunity for the entire motor sport family to come together, from grassroots level to the elite, with women and men from a host of regions and countries all sharing this passion we have for the sport.

“It is also a chance to give motor sport in your country fresh impetus after this difficult period. As drivers, we don’t get many opportunities to race on behalf of our country. I was lucky enough to do so in my career and I have some lasting memories of that time.

“Whoever you are and whichever country you come from, there’s a category that’s made for you,” summed up Kristensen, as he noted that full details of the 2021 FIA Motorsport Games will be revealed at a later stage.
