The FIA releases details of their latest WMSC and WCAMT meet which was chaired by the team of the new President and his deputies.

The FIA has released details of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) and World Council for Automobile Mobility and Tourism (WCAMT) meeting held on February 3, which was chaired by new the President Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

With the ongoing discussions on better governance and transparency, Sulayem took several steps in that direction. He appointed new set of FIA Commissions’ Presidents along with four additional Senate members for greater diversity and representation.

He also laid the foundation of a robust governance with the recruitment of a new FIA Chief Executive Officer, while also declaring of a fully independent audit of the governing body. “A new era has begun for the FIA, through the creation of a governance framework founded on openness and global diversity,” said Sulayem.

“This is a key pillar of our strategy and I warmly thank the World Councils’ Members, who have approved the changes. Responsibility and authority of World Councils, which emanate from our Members, will be increased.

“A more effective oversight model will be designed, stakeholders’ priorities will be aligned, and a responsibly profitable FIA operation will be ensured. To reach these objectives, the Federation’s governing bodies and administration will work closely together to make the FIA the global voice of motor sport and mobility.”

Two major decisions taken:

  • The appointment of FIA Commissions’ Presidents and four additional Senate members, guided by the key priorities of ensuring greater diversity and representation of the world’s regions,
  • The launch of a new and robust governance process, including a fully independent financial audit of the FIA, and the recruitment of an FIA Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

In terms of the FIA Commissions Presidents changes, there were new names on the list, with the Women side seeing the appointment of Deborah Mayer replacing Michele Mouton. Meanwhile, Tom Kristensen’s role as the Drivers’ Commission head ended with Felipe Massa taking over the position. At the same time, the Brazilian was replaced by India’s Akbar Ebrahim as the new CIK-Karting Commission President.

Petter Solberg is appointed as Massa’s deputy, with the Safety Commission President role going to Sam Michael who replaces Sir Patrick Head, with the commission also featuring Michael Masi as the FIA F1 Safety Delegate.

Despite the name of Peter Bayer doing rounds, the list had no President of the Single-Seaters Commission as yet, which features Nikolaz Tombazis as the FIA Technical representative in a non-voting role.
