Aston Martin has been handed a financial penalty by the FIA for F1 Cost Cap procedural breach committed while filing the 2021 report.

Following the announcement of Red Bull getting financial penalty and wind tunnel time cut due to procedural and overspending F1 cost cap breach, the FIA has handed a financial penalty to Aston Martin for its own procedural breach for 2021 season.

It is in line with what Williams were handed earlier in the season. It is ‘due to its failure to file accurate Full Year Reporting Documentation in respect of the 2021 Full Year Reporting Period because it inaccurately excluded and/or adjusted costs in the calculation of its Relevant Costs’.

The team inaccurately filed the cost under various heads as is mentioned in the FIA report and as a result, they have been fined USD 450,000 which they have to pay up in 30 days time. Additionally, they are also to incur the cost of ABA of this process.

Much like with Red Bull, the FIA noted that ‘he Cost Cap Administration recognised that AMR has acted cooperatively and in good faith throughout the review process and has sought to provide additional information and evidence when requested in a timely manner, that this is the first year of the full application of the Financial Regulations and that there is no accusation or evidence that AMR has sought or obtained any undue advantage as a result of the breach’.

Here’s the sanction:

a) AMR must pay a Financial Penalty of USD 450,000 to the FIA within 30 days of the date of execution of the ABA (Article 9.5 of the Financial Regulations);

b) AMR bears the costs incurred by the Cost Cap Administration in connection with the
preparation of the ABA.
