Sacha Fenestraz is catching the leaders in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 thanks to his victory today at the street of Monaco. The driver from Josef Kaufmann Racing beat the R-ace GP duo, Robert Shwartzman and Will Palmer. Dan Ticktum won in rookie championship.

Sacha Fenestraz (Josef Kaufmann Racing) started from pole position and kept this place until the checker flag. Behind the Frenchman-Argentinian were the R-ace GP of Will Palmer and Robert Shwartzman who was able to overtake his team mate at the end of the opening lap thanks to a Palmer mistake at Piscine chicane.

Once again battling on track was Max Defourny (R-ace GP) who was fighting for 4th place with Dan Ticktum (Arden Motorsport). Defourny was able to overtake the Briton in an unexpected turn which is Portier. Despite this manoeuvre, Ticktum finished 5th and as a winner in rookie championship.

Completing the point’s positions finished Alex Peroni (Fortec Motorsports), Gabriel Aubry (Tech 1 Racing), Richard Verschoor (MP Motorsport), Alexander Vartanyan (JD Motorsport) and Alexey Korneev (Fortec Motorsports).

Today’s race had some more accidents and a final safety car appearance due to Thomas Neubauer (Tech 1 Racing) retirement. The start of the race was also a little bit crazy when the drivers arrived at Grand Hotel Hairpin where Renault junior driver, Jarno Opmeer (MP Motorsport) tried the move on Henrique Chaves (AVF). The manoeuvre finished with both drivers out of the race and causing an “accordion effect” that ended with Frank Bird (Fortec Motorsports) retirement.

In the drivers’ championship, Palmer is in the lead with 144 points, 9 more than Shwartzman. Today’s race winner, Fenestraz reduced the gap to 29 points while Defourny is fourth with 72 points of gap.

Next Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 round will be held at Hungaroring (Hungary).
