A feasibility study is being undertaken by the officials to check if a F1 race can take place on the streets of Panama as per a report.
With a possibility of having 25 F1 races in a calendar in future, a new venue has sprung up this week with reports of a grand prix in Panama being talked upon. As per midiario.com, a feasibility study has been set-up to check if the transcontinental country can host a race.
It states that architecture company, Mallol Arquitectos, was hired back in October 2019 to study the possibility of a street race of about five kilometers in Panama City, with the new country being dubbed as an exotic location for F1 to have a grand prix race.
As per the report, the street circuit which could be the venue for Panama GP lays on the Coastal Belt from the Photographic Parador, next to the Yacht and Fishing Club and runs to the Paitilla Hospital. It then continues on the 53rd Street in Marbella.
It then moves through the 50th Street and finally returns to the Cinta Costera along Aquilino de la Guardia Street. The document – which has not been made available online yet – stipulates 2022 as the start date for the first F1 Panama GP.
The start date clashes with the end date of Mexico, which is the second South American race on the current calendar along with Brazil. The latter’s contract ends in 2020 but there could be a new deal in place as F1 has to choose between Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
It will be to see if Panama GP is coming as an addition to the F1 calendar and or as a possible back-up venue for Mexico, should it fall out. With Miami GP also uncertain, Liberty Media will certainly want to look at alternatives on the American side.
