Among the host of digital initiatives seen under Liberty Media in Formula 1 this year, the new owners have one more to add to its growing tally as it announced a new-for F1 Trading Card Game for the fans in partnership with VirtTrade.

The game is already online on the iOS platform, while it will go live on Android devices from July onward. The app will have ‘collectible images of drivers, tracks, teams and action’ of the grand prix races.

It also has the option of a specific ‘live’ day and date publishing from the each race weekend. The idea for the app is to continue with the fan engagement not only during the races but in between and also the off-season.

Head of Digital New Business F1, Adam Crothers said: “VirtTrade offers F1 a new and alternative take on presenting our mix of content as well as a new entry point for fans.

“We think their unique take on collectibles gamification will be a hit with our current fanbase too and the product offers a game type environment that isn’t simply simulation based.”

Chief Commercial Officer of VirtTrade Ross Walker added: “We are obviously thrilled to be working with F1 as a brand and Liberty Media as new custodians of the sport.

“We have long coveted F1 and the opportunity the brand presents for a digital collecting experience, and we look forward to helping F1 and its owners enter a new space to engage fans and drive revenue streams.”

VirtTrade joins the list of digital changes the sport has seen this year which follows the enhanced social media usage, a tie-up with Twitter for live Q&A, increased video packages on Youtube, its own Fantasy League, own online streaming service F1 TV and more.
