The Extreme E off-road championship has announced a list of drivers for its inaugural event, with several big names featuring in it.

The electric off-road SUV racing series is set to start in 2021, with the first venue being Greenland, has revealed the names of 11 racers to take part in the series which is being undertaken to raise awareness.

The brand new Extreme E E-SUV ODYSSEY 21 was showcased at Goodwood Festival of Speed with FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) title-holder Sebastien Ogier named as its ambassador.

Naturally, the Frenchman is part of the 11 names announced, which also features Andreas Bakkerud, Kevin Bakkerud, Timmy Hansen Timo Scheider from the rallycross division – the latter having competed in DTM too.

The female contingent has W Series winner Jamie Chadwick and veteran racers Katherine Legge and Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky. Meanwhile, the single-seater side has Lucas di Grassi and Andre Lotterer.

The final name is of Sacha Prost, who is an ice racer and also the youngest son of F1 legend, Alain. Teams like Venturi, ABT and HWA AG has already announced their entry, with more to join in before February 2021.

“We have revealed the car, and our first race location, but any good championship needs top driver talent in order to be truly successful,” said series boss Alejandro Agag.

“This world-class list of drivers, representing the very best male and female talent from multiple disciplines across top-tier motorsport, illustrates Extreme E’s serious sporting credentials.

“It certainly marks another very important step as we continue the development of our exciting new series.” The races will take place over three days, within an area no larger than 10km2 in a tournament format.
