Joel Eriksson may be the surprise this weekend for the Masters of Formula 3 at Zandvoort. The Swede told to FormulaRapida.net why He is back in front after some crashes, bad luck and car issues.

Eriksson, brother of GP2 racer, Jimmy Eriksson find the pace that he had in the beginning of the season during the last round of FIA Formula 3 European Championship, at Spa-Francorchamps.

The driver from Tomelilla was back on top again, taking his maiden podium since Hungaroring, and his first win in the series as well. FormulaRapida.net talked with the Nordic driver after Spa-Francorchamps Race 2 and 3.

“I’m really happy. I knew that I needed a good start and a good run for Eau Rouge and the backstraight to catch Russell at the beginning and that this was my only chance. I set up a plan and it worked out really well. Then I tried to push at the beginning and build a gap as Russell was really quick, but I saw he was just behind me. He started catching me more and more so I focused on defending but second time he tried it was impossible.”

Afterwards on Race 3, He took his first victory in the series for him and for Motopark (since his comeback last year), after a great come back with a good driver, which is George Russell

“Well, Russell is a good driver and he would never do something too aggressive. He wants to make points for the championship and so I was quite comfortable.”

Aiming for Masters of Zandvoort win, the Swede will have to fight harder because he is not feeling on pace in wet conditions, at least in Spa-Francorchamps Race 1:

“It was really bad for us. The pace was quite good but the five drivers I had in front were really quick under the rain. It was quite harder because I could not see a thing.”
