Former McLaren Racing F1 team principal Eric Boullier has joined the organisation team of the French GP.

The grand prix which made its return to the F1 calendar in 2018 at Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet is scheduled to take place this year on June 21-23. Even though the event was a success but traffic issues derailed the moods of the fans, teams and media.

Boullier, who was dropped by McLaren last year in July in their management shake-up, was sidelined due to suspected gardening leave and will now return in a dual role of an ambassador to French GP and as its sport and operational strategic advisor.

This is Boullier’s first role since leaving McLaren with the Frenchman opting out to be associated with a F1 team after his previous stints with Renault/Lotus. Prior to F1, he worked with DAMS and Racing Engineering in the lower divisions.

“I am happy and proud to have the opportunity to collaborate again with the team of the GP of France. I attach particular importance to the French GP and I look forward to contributing to the success of this major motor sport event,” said Boullier.

“I am delighted to welcome Eric Boullier to the French Grand Prix organisation,” Christian Estrosi, President of the GIP Grand Prix de France, said. “During his 20 years in the sport, he has been a driving force in the development of every team he has worked with.

“Eric has advanced technical and sporting knowledge, a unique experience, and I have already benefited greatly from his advice and expertise during our working group for the return of the French Grand Prix.”

General Manager of GIP, Gilles Dufeigneux added: “His consulting mission will allow us to continue to develop our actions and sustain the success of this great sporting event at national and international level.”
