Zandvoort: the favourite track for the DTM drivers

DTM arrives to its fifth Grand Prix of the season at the circuit of Zandvoort, an old-fashioned track which all the drivers seem to like. At least, the three drivers present in today’s press conference, Mortara, da Costa and Auer have agreed on the fact that it is a challenging track.

The winner of the race in 2012 and second in the present championship, Edoardo Mortara, has stated that he really loves the old tracks, especially the ones with fast corners. He has also pointed out the extra caution drivers need on this circuit as any mistake is strongly paid because of the gravel. He is really looking forward to the challenge and, although Audi has performed really well in the past, he thinks that BMW are going to be tough to beat.

António Félix da Costa, who achieved his first DTM victory in this circuit, has stressed the fact that any mistake will be strongly paid. Despite other motorsports tendency of going away from these old-school tracks, he says that it is brilliant to have the chance of racing in circuits like this or Norisring, and he believes that most drivers think like him. He is confident with his chances, although he doesn’t see himself, nor BMW, as favourites.

Lucas Auer also agreed with the other two drivers and said that qualifying would be really important, as overtaking is quite difficult in this circuit. However, he pointed out that a bad qualifying was not the end of anyone’s chances. With good pace and a good strategy, there would still be a chance to make a good race. This opinion was shared by da Costa and Mortara.

Now it is time to see how all the drivers give their best in this tough circuit, paying special attention to a qualifying session which will be decisive for their performance in the races.
