Yelloly joins Status GP for 2014 GP3

Status Grand Prix has signed highly-rated Briton Nick Yelloly to be one of its three drivers in the GP3 Series in 2014.

The 23-year-old returns to the Formula One™ support-race series as one of the championship favourites having finished sixth overall in the point standings in a 2013 campaign that included four podiums.

Yelloly, a member of the MSA Team UK programme, also competed against Status GP in his maiden season of GP3 racing in 2011, before enjoying a successful year in World Series Formula Renault 3.5 in 2012, when he won two races and finished fifth overall in the championship.

Status GP won the second highest number of races of the GP3 teams with the first generation car in 2010-12, and it sees Yelloly’s arrival as a major step towards ensuring it emulates this success with the current 400hp AER-powered Dallara.

Team principal Teddy Yip Jr said: “Nick has been a highly successful driver over the past two seasons, and we know that his experience and leadership as well as speed are important assets for our driver line-up in GP3 this season. He is ready to win this championship, and the team has re-doubled its efforts this winter to provide Nick and his team-mates with a title-winning platform.”

Yelloly commented: “I’m very happy to be joining Status GP for 2014, and we have a clear aim to win the championship together. I’d like to thank my father, David, and my manager Mark Blundell of MB Partners for making it happen with Status GP. We are really looking forward to getting started.”

The 2014 GP3 Series will feature 18 races at nine Formula One™ Grands Prix this year. The first of seven events in Europe will take place at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona on May 10-11, before the series competes at the inaugural Russian Grand Prix in Sochi in October and then closes out the year at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in Yas Marina.

The season will commence with the first of three pre-season official tests at Estoril on March 27-28.

Status GP will announce further information about its GP3 Series driver line-up in the coming weeks.
