Former F1 driver Wilson Fittipaldi Jr suffered a cardiac arrest after choking on food during Christmas Day and birthday celebrations.
Fittipaldi Jr was celebrating Christmas and his 80th birthday with his family when he choked on a piece of meat and the lack of oxygen led to cardiac arrest. He was rushed to the hospital and resuscitated. He is still in the hospital under sedation.
The family is awaiting for him to wake up. “At Christmas lunch, Wilsinho choked on a piece of meat and had a cardiac arrest, he was resuscitated and is sedated and intubated, we are waiting for him to wake up, he has a difficult post-surgical history of post-sedative recovery, one day at a time, let’s wait,” his wife Rita wrote.
“I Rita, yesterday I received countless phone calls and loving messages of support for the whole family, Christian is with us every day, I am very grateful to all the messages, I know that they are what give us strength in this difficult time. Continue with prayers and positive vibrations of health and recovery for Wilsinho. GOD will do the best! I believe!

Fittipaldi Jr took part in 38 F1 races and scored in few rounds. He even had a podium in his home event but it was in a non-F1 championship event at Interlagos. His brother Emerson went for a more successful career than him, winning two titles. His son Christian also raced in F1 but had a far more success in his stints in CART and IMSA championships.
