Williams plans to use April break to improve performance

The director of the Formula 1 team Williams, James Vowles, has acknowledged that the team needs to make the most of the April break to address its early-season challenges in the 2026 season. With the Bahrain Grand Prix and the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix canceled due to the conflict in the Middle East, Williams will have an opportune moment to make adjustments.

Vowles stated that the team will need “every hour” of this break to reorient itself before the next competition in Miami. “Clearly, we haven’t started the season as we wanted and this is a good time to take stock and determine what changes we can implement,” he stated during the The Vowles Verdict show.

The situation for Williams is critical, with a team currently sitting in ninth place in the constructors’ standings with just two points. The director admitted that the car is heavy and that developments will be needed to reduce this weight during this period.

“The goal is to ensure that we can effectively reduce the mass of the vehicle, as the season has only just begun with three races so far. We need time to analyze all the data and plan for the future,” Vowles added. The drivers will return to the UK during this break, where they are expected to do simulator practice and pit stop training to make the most of the available time.
