Duo BRDC Formula 4 Championship leader Will Palmer will drive for ART Junior Team in next month’s (4-6 September) Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 round on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.
It will be Will’s first experience of the series as he continues to compete in his second season of BRDC F4, which the 18-year-old from Southwater currently leads by 69 points with three rounds remaining. The BRDC Rising Star has taken six victories already this year in a highly competitive field, with two further podium finishes.
He will compete in three Eurocup races at Silverstone next month, which form part of the prestigious World Series by Renault package, headlined by Formula Renault 3.5 – a feeder series to Formula One. There will be a qualifying session followed by two races on Saturday, with another qualifying session and race on Sunday.
With a strong pedigree in European junior single-seater racing, ART Junior Team is one of the most respected outfits in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 series. Based in Nieul-sur-Mer, France, the squad has achieved numerous race wins and a third-place overall finish with current FIA Formula 3 European Champion Esteban Ocon in Eurocup 2.0 in 2013.
Will said:
“I’m delighted to be taking part in the Formula Renault Eurocup round at Silverstone. It’s an extremely competitive series in which many great drivers have appeared in the past, but I’m hopeful that with the experience of the ART Junior Team I can get up to speed quickly and challenge for some good results.”
He added:
“Silverstone is definitely one of my favourite tracks, with some great sequences of corners including the Maggots-Becketts section. As a BRDC Rising Star, it means that much more to be racing in front of such a supportive club.”
Thibaut de Mérindol, Principal of ART Junior Team, said:
“We are very happy to have Will driving for the team at Silverstone and it is a great opportunity to work with him. We follow all the F4 series across the world to identify good drivers, and Will is certainly one of them. We are looking forward to seeing how he will do against our regular drivers and we are sure he will perform to a high level.”
