Robert Wickens arrives at the Chevrolet Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park with a deep sense of gratitude. Approximately two months ago, a devastating fire affected his team’s transporter, DXDT Racing, destroying nearly everything it contained, including the adapted brake system he uses.
Despite the adverse circumstances, the team has managed to rebuild quickly and efficiently. Following the incident, DXDT Racing participated in the test of the Six Hours of The Glen, with a Corvette chassis that was adapted to the regulations of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
A coalition of specialists, including Bosch, Pratt Miller, and Corvette Racing, has worked tirelessly to create a new braking system in just four weeks, thus allowing Wickens to return to competition at CTMP. At a recent press conference, the 37-year-old driver expressed his appreciation for the support received, highlighting that, in difficult times, he thought his season might have ended prematurely.
Wickens was thankful to the team, acknowledging that there hasn’t been much time for planning after the devastation. Additionally, he pointed out the ongoing challenge of replacing lost equipment, like a new HANS and racing shoes that also sustained fire damage.
Despite the complications, the driver feels optimistic about his fresh start. With a chassis test already completed, he joins the #36 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R alongside his teammate Mason Filippi. His aspiration is to repay the team’s effort with a victory.
“The work doesn’t stop,” Wickens asserted determinedly. “We want to win in this series and show that we are strong enough to fight for podiums and victories every weekend.”
