Driver Sebastian Wheldon has decided to switch teams, moving from Prema to MP Motorsport for his first participation in the European Regional Formula Championship.
Wheldon, who previously competed with Prema and secured third place in the Italian F4 in 2025, also raced with the Mumbai Falcons team during the Middle East Trophy earlier this year, finishing fifth in the standings. Despite being recently announced by Prema, he has chosen to join MP after the official preseason tests.
Regarding his decision, Wheldon commented that the “intelligence” of the MP team was reflected during his prior participation, and he expressed satisfaction with the progress made in testing at Hockenheim and Paul Ricard. The goal now is to be ready to compete at the Red Bull Ring later this month.
This change also coincides with that of driver Enzo Deligny, who has also left Prema in favor of Van Amersfoort Racing during a time of significant changes within the Italian team this winter.
On its part, Prema has appointed Tomass Stolcermanis as Wheldon’s replacement. The 2024 Latvian, Stolcermanis competed with Prema in the Italian F4 and debuted in the FREC with Race Performance Motorsport, thus strengthening the lineup alongside Salim Hanna and champion Kean Nakamura-Berta, who continues to test with the team.
MP Motorsport has also added Alexander Abkhazava, who surprised with a third position in the FREC Middle East, and Newman Chi, who participated in two rounds last season and this year in the Spanish F4.
In the latest tests at Paul Ricard, driver Gabriel Gomez set the best time, standing out in his debut with the rookie team Rodin Motorsport. Gomez dominated the first day, although the second was overshadowed by Emanuele Olivieri with R-ace GP.
Another standout driver was Alexandre Munoz, French F4 champion, who has secured a contract with ART Grand Prix.
Finally, G4 Racing has confirmed the signing of Marcus Saeter, a young driver who finished in 15th place in the Italian F4 last year, thus joining Saqer Al Maosherji and Rahim Alibhai.
