WEC: #12 takes Le Mans 24 pole in Cadillac 1-2 finish from #38

WEC, Cadillac, Le Mans 24

Cadillac ended up 1-2 in FIA WEC hyperpole as #12 takes pole in Le Mans 24 Hours from #38 in Hypercar, while #29 in LMP2 and #27 in LMGT3.

Hypercar –

Alex Lynn takes a sensational pole position in the #12 Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA Hypercar team after a thrilling first ever two-phased Hyperpole session on Thursday evening at Le Mans. British ace sets a sensational 3m23.166s lap to head the sister Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA car driven by Earl Bamber in the Hyperpole 2 session.

Additional info after Wednesday: The technical checks were conducted at the end of the qualifying session with the presence of team representatives. There, after having examined the Technical Delegate’s report, the Stewards considered the minimum car weight did not comply with the relevant regulations. During the hearing, the Team Manager confirmed and accepted the procedure of the scrutineering and the measurements.

Consequently, the Stewards decided to impose the disqualification of car #6 (Porsche Penske) from the qualifying session. Car #6 will start at the back of the grid in its category according to Article 10.2.2 of the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans supplementary regulations. As a result, the Stewards decided that the competitors classified behind car #6 at the end of the qualifying session will be moved up in the classification in accordance with article 12.19 of the FIA Sporting Code.

This means that for the first time, one of the Aston Martin THOR Team Valkyries will participate in Hyperpole, in the shape of the #009 entry crewed by Marco Sørenson, Alex Riberas and Roman De Angelis.

LMP2 –

In LMP2, Mathias Beche leapfrogged an epic three-way tussle for honours to vault from fourth to first in the TDS Racing entry, with a lap that none of his rivals proved able to beat. That shaded a spectacular scrap between Tom Dillmann, Louis Délétraz and Ben Hanley, with the trio ultimately blanketed by just over a tenth-of-a-second in favour of the former.

LMGT3 –

After Zacharie Robichon progressed safely through H1 in the two-part Hyperpole session in the #27 entry, Drudi then got the better of Ferrari factory driver Alessio Rovera in the #21 Vista AF Corse Ferrari to claim the prime spot on the grid for the twice-round-the-clock contest.

Lin Hodenius and Maxime Martin produced a stellar joint performance to secure fourth place in Iron Lynx’s #61 Mercedes-AMG LMGT3 – sporting a striking ‘Silver Arrows’ livery to celebrate the three-pointed star’s return to the world’s most famous race – with Richard Lietz grabbing fifth in last year’s championship-winning Manthey 1st Phorm Porsche 911 GT3 R LMGT3.

The biggest casualties of the first half of the knockout session were the #54 Vista AF Corse entry of Francesco Castellacci – who beached his Ferrari 296 LMGT3 in the Porsche Curves gravel trap, bringing out a red flag – Sébastien Baud who fell foul of track limits in the #59 United Autosports McLaren and Giammarco Levorato in Proton Competition’s #88 Ford Mustang, all three of which have been podium-finishing cars so far in 2025.
