WEC: #1 Rebellion scores second pole of 2019/20 in 8 Hours of Bahrain

The #1 Rebellion Racing Gibson crew scored their second FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) pole of 2019/20 in 8 Hours of Bahrain in LMP1 category.

With both the Toyota cars heavy with ballast to help the privateers compete, the #1 Rebellion crew took over the mantle for the second consecutive round in 8 Hours of Bahrain as the team of Bruno Senna, Norman Nato and Gustavo Menezes took another WEC pole.

They had the average time of 1m42.979s to beat #5 Team LNT Ginetta of Ben Hanley, Charlie Robertson and Jordan King (1m43.123s) as the two Toyotas followed then, with the #8 ahead of #7 as #6 Team LNT completed the LMP1 line-up.

The leading trio of Sebastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Kazuki Nakajima are to start from third with teammates Kamui Kobayashi, Mike Conway and Jose Maria Lopez in fourth and #6 crew of Guy Smith, Michael Simpson and Chris Dyson fifth.

The LMP2 category had #22 United Autosports Oreca of Paul di Resta, Philip Hanson and Filipe Albuquerque take WEC pole with a 1m45.357s lap ahead of #37 Jackie Chan DC Racing Oreca of Will Stevens, Gabriel Aubry and Ho-Pin Tung.

The Top 3 had #26 G-Drive Racing Aurus of Jean-Eric Vergne, Job van Uitert and Roman Rusinov as #38 Jota Sport ended up fourth from #42 Cool Racing, #33 High Class Racing, #36 Signatech Alpine, #29 Racing Team Nederland and #47 Cetilar Racing.

LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am

It was a dominant show in the LMGTE Pro class by the two Porsche cars with #91 crew of  Gianmaria Bruni and Richard Lietz taking WEC pole with a 1m55.485s lap from sister #92 of Kevin Estre and Michael Christensen. The two AF Corse Ferrari followed.

The #51 of James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi had the upperhand on the sister #71, with the #95 Aston Martin Racing in fifth as sister #97 did not take part. Over in the LMGTE Am class, it was another WEC pole for #57 Team Project 1 Porsche.

The duo of Ben Keating and Jeroen Bleekemolen set a 1m57.602s as they led #88 Dempsey – Proton Racing and #83 AF Corse Ferrari in the Top 3. There more Porsches in the Top 5 with #56 in fourth from #86 Gulf Racing.
