Red Bull Racing’s F1 car went up against cars, jets and a bike in a friendly race in Turkey’s newly built international airport in Istanbul.
The Red Bull car was driven by GT racer Jake Dennis, who also works as a simulator driver for the team and has had the chance to drive the current F1 car on track in the tests in Barcelona and Hungaroring.
Dennis was up against a Kawasaki H2R ridden by former Supersport World Champion Kenan Sofuoglu, Aston Martin Vantage driven by rally racer Yagiz Avci, Lotus Evora GT 430 by bike racer Toprak Razgatlioglu and a Tesla P100DL by Emma Kimilainen.
Aside the cars and the bikes, they also had Solo Turk’s F-16 fighter jet along with a private jet racing in the 400m stretch as part of the aviation, space and technology Teknofest festival at Istanbul’s new international airport, which will open up for public in October.
The friendly race took place on September 20 and was eventually won by Sofuoglu as he beat Dennis to the chequered flag in 9.254s in a close finish, with the fighter jet in third from Kimilainen’s Tesla.
Also present in the festival was former Minardi F1 driver Patrick Friesacher.
To race against a Falcon F-16 fighter plane, F1 car, motorbike and some supercars with the Tesla P100DL race car is a dream of mine but also a big step and possibility for the whole electrical motor… https://t.co/5SRCD9kcex
