Video: Areia unharmed in a freak Porsche incident at Portimao

Alex Areia was unharmed in a freak accident at Portimao after his Porsche flew over the fence and landed into the grandstand.

With his brakes gone, Areia was a passenger during a freak incident in a practice session of Porsche Sprint Challenge Ibercia championship at Portugal’s Portimao circuit. His Porsche GT3 Cup car flew into the grandstand after hitting the tyre barrier.

There is no proper video of how the car hit the tyre barrier and flew over the safety fence onto the grandstand as one fan video only caught the incident half-heartedly. Fortunately, there were no spectators present at that time of the hour which usually filled up.

The circuit is hosting the FIA WEC’s 6 Hours of Portimao this weekend. “It was very angry, I ran out of brakes at the end of the straight, I practically became a passenger,” wrote Areia on his social media. “Luckily no one was in that area of the grandstand and I managed to get out of the accident unharmed, thanks to the safety level of that car, keep strong.”
