Sebastian Vettel won a difficult race today at the Hungaroring after having problems with his steering wheel since the beginning of the race. Kimi Räikkönen was 2nd ahead of Valtteri Bottas.
Vettel and Räikkönen managed to keep their positions at the start of the race. Bottas was right behind them ahead of Verstappen, Hamilton and Sainz, who overtook both McLarens. Ricciardo had to retire following a collision with his teammate. Vettel started experiencing problems with the steering wheel even before the pit stop and his race pace was extremely slow for the remaining of the race. Räikkönen was much faster than him, but Ferrari kept him behind Vettel in order to defend his position, in spite of risking the victory.
The Mercedes caught up and Bottas was told to let Hamilton through. The Brit promised to give back his position if we didn’t overtake the Ferraris. Although he was really close, he was unable to get passed Räikkönen and let Bottas through in the last corner of the race. Verstappen got really close to the Mercedes, but he stayed on P5 despite getting a 10 second penalty due to the incident with Ricciardo. Alonso managed to finish P6 with the McLaren, even setting the fastest lap of the race. Sainz was P7 after a wonderful start where he overtook both McLarens, but Alonso took his position back on track. Pérez, Ocon and Vandoorne completed the top 10.
