Vettel takes the last pole of the year

Drivers lined up at the exit of the pit lane minutes before the light turned green. It was important to set a time as soon as possible before the track got worse, the thing which has happened: it started raining more intensely after 10 minute session. Drivers came out and were in danger not to pass to Q2 along with Caterham and Marussia were Vergne, Kovalainen, Gutiérrez, Ricciardo and Maldonado. It seemed impossible that times would improve, but these guys have stayed on track and after a lot of laps they have succeeded. Finally, have been eliminated in Q1 Maldonado, Gutiérrez, Pic, Van der Garde, Bianchi and Chilton. Faster were Hamilton, Vettel, Rosberg and Hulkenberg.

In Q2 the opposite has happened and the track has been improving as time expired. In the last 2 minutes the rain increased in intensity and did not allow the drivers who were out to improve his time. Have been left out Kovalainen, Di Resta, Bottas, Pérez, Button and Sutil. Sergio Perez has suffered an accident in the last moments of the session, he has the car stepping on a kerb and has hit against the wall. Grosjean led the session followed by Vettel, Alonso and Rosberg.

The rain increased and Q3 was delayed 45 minutes. The drivers made their first attempt with extreme wet tyres, but soon came Romain Grosjean to box for intermediates (he did it first). The track has been improving until the last minute and Vettel clinched his ninth pole of the season. Rosberg got the second position being 0.8 s behind his compatriot for Red Bull. Alonso ranked 3rd after making a mistake in the second sector, if this hadn’t happened he might finished 2nd and who knows if he even had the possibility to fight for pole. The Spaniard was not as high in ranking from the Bahrain GP this season, so tomorrow may again have the opportunity to fight for the win.
