Max Verstappen celebrates a ‘very special’ moment at the Singapore GP with Gianpiero Lambiase

The Formula 1 driver, Max Verstappen, described sharing his first victory at the Singapore Grand Prix with his race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, as a ‘very special’ moment, as Lambiase will leave the Red Bull Racing team at the end of the 2027 season.

Verstappen, who has secured his second victory of the season, dominated the weekend at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, where he achieved pole position for both the sprint race and the main race, winning both competitions with authority.

The Milton Keynes team sent Lambiase to the podium to represent Red Bull alongside Verstappen during the celebration. It is important to note that Lambiase will join McLaren as a race director, a move that was announced in April 2026.

In the post-race press conference, Verstappen recalled that Lambiase had commented, in a conversation prior to Las Vegas, that this could be the last time he would be on the podium. ‘I didn’t believe it at that moment, I always think we could win more,’ he added.

Currently, Verstappen is in fourth place in the drivers’ standings with 221 points, 119 points behind the championship leader, Kimi Antonelli, following his recent victories in Bahrain and Singapore.
