Max Verstappen has shared a fun reflection on his former teammate, Daniel Ricciardo, who has chosen him as the ideal driver for a future team in the legendary 24-hour Le Mans race.
Currently, Ricciardo, who has not competed in any championship since leaving Formula 1, has expressed his interest in participating in this prestigious race, mentioning Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel as dream teammates.
In an episode of the podcast Beyond the Grid, Ricciardo acknowledged that although he does not want to pressure his former teammate, Verstappen is a name that would be high on his list of preferences. “I don’t want to put pressure on him, but obviously Max is a standout name,” Ricciardo commented.
Verstappen, on the other hand, responded to these statements during a press conference ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix. “He’s smart for choosing me,” he said with a smile. However, he added that, for him, participating in Le Mans would require proper preparation, which he currently cannot afford.
Despite Ricciardo expressing his interest in returning to competition, Verstappen revealed that they had already talked about this topic previously. “We’ve talked, and it’s true that we don’t need to share everything we discuss. He doesn’t see himself competing a whole season, but a one-off participation could be interesting,” the Dutch driver assured.
Both drivers acknowledge that if they decided to participate in Le Mans, they would have to do so with the necessary commitment to have real chances of victory, as competing against teams contesting the entire championship requires great preparation.
