Max Verstappen criticizes starts after Red Bull’s poor beginnings in Malaysia and Singapore

The Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen has expressed his dissatisfaction with the recent race starts of the Red Bull team during the weekend in Singapore, an event that coincides with his 250th Grand Prix. Additionally, he has achieved his 50th pole, a milestone that places him among the five drivers with the most poles in history, alongside great names like Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher.

Despite this milestone, Verstappen does not seem satisfied with his results at the starts. After a disappointing performance at the beginning of the race, he described his start during the sprint race as “horrendous” and warned that a repeat of this situation could compromise his chances of victory. Red Bull has struggled to start well in rainy conditions in Malaysia and Singapore, with Verstappen opting to start in second gear according to the team’s recommendations, a decision that did not yield the expected results.

In his performance analysis, Verstappen indicated that the ability to start effectively is crucial, especially with two Ferrari drivers immediately behind him on the grid, as they have proven to be the best at starts this season.

Moreover, the driver suggested that if the same conditions arise on Sunday, he might change his gear selection strategy to better tackle the situation. “I think it is clear that second gear is not the most suitable for us at this moment,” he commented with a smile after his experience on the track.

Verstappen is aware that every detail counts when competing for victory, as a good start can be decisive for securing a win at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
