The Dutch driver Max Verstappen is entirely justified in exploring alternatives to Red Bull in the world of Formula 1, as stated by Sky Sports F1 expert Naomi Schiff.
Speculations about Verstappen’s future with the Milton Keynes team have been a recurring topic. Despite ongoing rumors linking him with rival teams like Mercedes and McLaren, the driver has remained reserved regarding his own decision.
Part of the uncertainty stems from an exit clause in his contract, which would allow him to leave the team if he is not among the top two drivers in the standings before the summer break, which will arrive in two races.
Even though he chose to stay with Red Bull for the 2026 season, Schiff suggested that Verstappen’s interest in other options is a reasonable reaction to the current lack of competitiveness within the team. ‘Why shouldn’t he look around?’ Schiff declared during the Sky Sports F1 broadcast in Belgium.

Although Red Bull theoretically has the best engine, it has not achieved a competitive package, at least not one that is consistently fast. This makes Verstappen’s desire to consider other options more understandable, as he has expressed his interest in not spending another ten years in Formula 1.
Furthermore, Schiff emphasized that the current situation in the driver market does not favor Verstappen, as seats in leading teams are mostly occupied. ‘Unfortunately, there are not many seats available in this paddock,’ she added.
At this point in the season, Verstappen is in seventh place in the driver standings with a total of 76 points, 103 points behind the championship leader, Kimi Antonelli.
