Max Verstappen and Red Bull have agreed to a new long-term F1 contract as per Dutch media, as they surge towards the 2022 season.
Prominent Dutch newspaper/website – De Telegraaf – has reported that Verstappen and Red Bull have agreed to a new contract which will see the 2021 F1 world champion stay with the team beyond the 2025 season, in the range of 2027 and 2028.
The exact length of the contract has not been mentioned while the amount is being said to be around 50 million euro per season. The report also mentions that the announcement could be made as early as this week to start the 2022 season on a good note.
The current deal for Verstappen runs out in 2023 and since his 2021 F1 title win, the two were engaged in contract talks for not just the length but more importantly the money aspect. With other teams fixing at one driver for long-term, Red Bull is following suit.
McLaren already sealed Lando Norris until the 2025 F1 season, while Charles Leclerc, Esteban Ocon and Valtteri Bottas are secured at their respective teams until 2024. The contract length of George Russell with Mercedes is not clear at the moment.
If the deal is done, Verstappen would spend more than 10 years with Red Bull. The Dutchman joined the family as Toro Rosso reserve in 2014 and was awarded a full-time seat in 2015 which followed with a Red Bull drive midway in 2016.
He has been part of the senior Red Bull team and finally achieved his goal of winning at least one world drivers’ championship in 2021. His stock has risen certainly which has naturally increased his value and thereby his salary.
