Frederic Vasseur is pleased with the reaction of the Ferrari drivers and the F1 team for the shortcomings they faced in 2024, which will be crucial for the road ahead.
Previously, whenever Ferrari found themselves in a slump, it was difficult for themselves to pick back up. But it was not the case in 2024. They had a minor hiccup with one of their updates, but the Italian outfit didn’t fall behind. They rectified the error and returned to the top in the races after.
That helped them to take the F1 constructors’ fight against McLaren to the last race, something that they haven’t been able to do so in recent past. Their recovery is what Vasseur feels good about. The attitude of the drivers and the team as a whole has been top notch to allow it to happen.
“I think we did a huge step forward compared to 12 months ago,” said Vasseur to media. “I am quite pleased with the dynamic and the path of the improvement and the direction of the improvement. We just have to continue to improve. To improve is marginal but there is still a difference. It’s not the performance of the 2024 car because 2025, it’s a new project.
“We’ll do a decent step forward and I’m quite pleased with the job done at the factory. What is giving me confidence is more the step that we did compared to one year ago and the capacity that we had to react in the tough moment of the season, because it’s where you can see that the team is working as a team. When you are winning everybody is nice, everybody is a best friend.
“I would say that these kind of weekends are quite easy to manage. It’s when you are in the tough moment that the reaction is important. We reacted each time very well. In June we came back as soon as possible with solutions. Everybody was pushing in the same direction. I’m quite pleased with the reaction of the drivers,” summed up Vasseur.
The Frenchman pressed on the fact that overall improvement is key and it goes for him too for success in 2025. “To think about 2025 because I think we have a good opportunity,” Vasseur continued. “We are improving collectively and the mood is good.
“This is very important. I think the feeling into the team is that we…what I like is that we all have the feeling that we can do a better job. And this is crucial if you want to improve, including me,” summed up Vasseur.
