Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen remained fastest in F1 Turkish GP FP2 from Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas.
It was another slippery run for drivers in F1 Turkish GP FP2 session at Intercity Istanbul Park as many continued to have offs and spins, which resulted in lap deletions. They gradually improved through the session, though, but still not at full pace.
Red Bull’s Verstappen was quickest with a 1m28.330s in the end to clean sweep the Friday running of F1 Turkish GP, as he led Ferrari’s Leclerc (1m28.731s) and Mercedes Bottas (1m28.905s) – the trio being the only ones to lap in the 1m28s.
Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton was fourth with a 1m29.180s as Red Bull’s Alexander Albon (1m29.363s) slotted in fifth ahead of the AlphaTauri pair of Daniil Kvyat (1m29.689s) and Pierre Gasly (1m29.94s) – the duo ahead of the three fighting for P3 in the championship.
Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel (1m30.022s) did well in eighth from Racing Point’s Lance Stroll (1m30.297s) and McLaren’s Lando Norris (1m30.907s) in the Top 10 as Racing Point’s Sergio Perez (1m31.104s) was just outside in 11th.
The leading Renault of Esteban Ocon (1m31.380s) was 12th with Alfa Romeo Racing’s Antonio Giovinazzi (1m31.493s) in 13th from McLaren’s Carlos Sainz (1m31.498s), who managed to complete the full session after hydraulic issues cut short his FP1 run.
Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo (1m31.872s) was a bit off from the Top 10 in 15th as Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen (1m31.932s) slotted in 16th from Williams’ George Russell (1m32.302s) as he led the Haas duo and his teammate.
It was Haas’ Romain Grosjean (1m32.570s) in 18th from Kevin Magnussen (1m32.807s) and Williams’ Nicholas Latifi (1m33.488s). Almost everyone had a spin at various corners, be it Turn 1, Turn 7, Turn 9 or Turn 14 but no major stoppage of concern.
