The change of race engineer of Yuki Tsunoda that happened in Monza is part of Visa Cash App RB’s team principal Laurent Mekies’ larger plan to develop its sporting/technical side.
At the onset of the F1 Italian GP weekend in Monza, Visa Cash App RB announced change of race engineer for Tsunoda, with Mattia Spini moving on internally to a different role. He was replaced by Ernesto Desiderio, who had been with the Faenza-based outfit for the past one year.
The change came as a slight surprise, but team’s CEO Peter Bayer noted it to be part of team principal Mekies’ plan to develop its sporting and technical side, which has seen a good number of influx in recent times. Both Alan Permane and Guillaume Cattelani started their roles this year.
And Tim Goss too finally started his work in October. “Very good [so far], they know each other since a while,” started Bayer, when asked about Tsunoda’s new race engineer. “Ernesto is with us since more than a year. It’s part of the overall plan that Laurent has in place to develop the team on the sporting side, on the technical side.
“I guess I can present it as double good news because we’re developing talent internally. Ernesto has taken over the race engineer for Yuki position and Mattia has moved up internally and so yeah happy with the development and how the team is growing. You know, we had other people joining us recently. Tim Goss [also] started in October, so we’re making good progress on the team side.”
