Top 5 Powerful Units/Engines Used by F1 Team in 2024

We all know that drivers are a crucial element of success in Formula 1. However, another vital part of any success story is the vehicle or the engine used. Fans always appreciate the success of Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen. But without a powerful car, it is impossible to win trophies. So, engines are a key component of every F1 car’s performance. And here, we have mentioned some of the most popular power units used by the Formula 1 team. If you are a big fan of Formula 1 and enjoy betting on this racing event at popular platforms like Betrino, such information can help you a lot in making informed decisions. Let’s get started with this.

Red Bull RB20

Fans always go crazy for a perfect combination, i.e., a Red Bull car with Max Verstappen. Well, it can be said that Red Bull hasn’t updated the car’s design or engine that much, and they are still going with the same colours and design that they used last year. It may be noted that the team has surprised F1 fans by introducing a powerful racing car, the RB20, during a pre-season launch event in Bahrain. This machine comes with side pod inlets to boost aerodynamics while cooling the engine quickly. It may be noted that the car is powered by an RBPTH002 engine developed by Honda and has a thermal as well as kinetic energy recovery system.

Ferrari’s SF-24

The team is all set to hit the track with the improved SF-24 car. The team has fixed the most common issue with the car, i.e., tire degradation. The car looks stunning and comes with an enhanced livery. It includes yellow streaks on the car’s body. The chassis is made of carbon fibre. It has a 1600CC engine with a single turbocharger. Speaking about the ERS system, the car has a hybrid energy recovery system and multiple electric motor generators. It may be noted that this car helped the team win the Italian Grand Prix and Monaco Grand Prix.

Mercedes’s AMG Petronas W15 Racing Machine

The learnings from the last two seasons have helped Mercedes to come up with an improved version of the W15. The machines now have a new and robust chassis, enhanced gearbox casing, and improved rear axle, and have some room for potential improvement like the DRS effect. It has a Mercedes-AMG F1 M15 E PERFORMANCE power unit with six cylinders. The maximum RPM limit is 15,000 rpm. Mercedes also has changed the anti-dive level located on the car’s front suspension and has shifted the upper wishbone’s back leg to a lower mounting point. With such improvements, the W15 will now offer better stability during cornering.

McLaren MCL60

It can be said that pre-season testing results weren’t that good for McLaren. Due to various issues, the team failed to complete all the runs. However, they are now ready to rule the track with the new MCL61. This car is an upgraded version of the MCL60 and comes with better tyre management and improved aerodynamics. They have also improved the slow-speed characteristics that greatly affected McLaren’s performance last season. Fans will also love the improved livery that features an aggressive design and a stunning combination of black and papaya-orange colors.

Alpine A524

This is the 4th F1 car introduced by Alpine. Two famous racers are now driving this car. They are Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly. The team unveiled this supercar on 7th February 2024 at Enstone. Besides, they also have introduced the prototype of their new racing car, A424. However, for now, the team will race with A 524. The design of this car looks quite stunning, and it combines blue, pink, and black colors. However, A524 is heavy and considered a little slow. It ranked 9th in terms of speed in the pre-season test.

New Engine Regulations Will Create a Major Evolution

For the Formula 1 2024 season, there will be 4 engine suppliers. These are Mercedes Benz, Williams, Aston Martin and McLaren. Red Bull will source engines from Honda. For AlphaTauri, Honda will be the engine supplier. Well, this may change in 2026. Red Bull is signing a deal with Ford to source engines.

What’s more? Audi is gearing up to launch its F1 engine by taking over Sauber. General Motors will also introduce its new engines for Formula 11, and the Andretti team will use those engines. Apart from this, fans will get to see some new and powerful engines. For example, the electrical power limit will go up by around 50 percent as manufacturers will no longer use MGU-H. Furthermore, internal combustion engines will use renewal fuel.

Well, after going through the pre-season testing results, it can be said that Red Bull and Max Verstappen are ready to show their magic. However, Mercedes and Ferrari have introduced some major upgrades. Who will dominate the track and surprise their fans? We will find out that very soon.
