Audi has announced the appointment of Thomas Fuhr as the new CEO of Audi Formula Racing GmbH, the division based in Neuburg responsible for uniting efforts in the development of the brand’s Formula 1 engines.
Fuhr will take up this new position at the Neuburg factory, where he will join the existing team. This decision will allow technical director Stefan Dreyer to fully focus on leading the technical development of Audi’s power unit for F1.
In addition, COO Christian Foyer will continue to supervise the daily operations of the Neuburg factory.
With over 30 years of experience in the industry, Fuhr has held significant positions, such as managing director of Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains from 2009 to 2012. Additionally, he has held senior positions at GROHE and LIXIL, and until now served as technology director at Georg Fischer Building Flow Solutions.
This technical and organizational background has been crucial for Audi, which seeks to further enhance its F1 engine project, which debuted this season. The CEO of Audi F1 and team principal Mattia Binotto commented: ‘We have built solid foundations in Neuburg, developing Audi’s first Formula 1 power unit from scratch. Thomas’s understanding of technical challenges and his capacity to lead high-performance teams will make him a key player in the team’s development.’
Fuhr, excited about his new role, stated: ‘I am proud to join Audi’s Formula 1 project. The chance to help shape Audi’s future in this sport is what makes this opportunity so exciting.’
It is worth noting that the CEO role in Audi’s engine division had been eliminated at the beginning of 2025, when the previous CEO, Adam Baker, left the organization.
