Pirelli Motorsport has revealed the compounds of the various drivers and teams for F1 Monaco GP on May 23-26 as they go heavy on the soft compound.
As revealed earlier, Pirelli is bringing the C3 (hard), C4 (medium) and C5 (soft) – the three softest compounds available for the F1 Monaco GP at the streets of Monte Carlo. In a not so surprising move, most of the teams are heavy on the soft compound.
Among them, the Ferrari and Red Bull Racing drivers will have the most number of sets available of the soft compound at 11, with all four drivers opting only for just the one set of medium and hard compound each.
Majority of teams have gone for the 10 sets of soft compound which includes Mercedes, Renault, Haas, McLaren, Alfa Romeo Racing and Toro Rosso. From them only Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo and Haas’ Kevin Magnussen have an alternative strategy.
The two drivers will have two sets of hard with them along with one of medium, whereas Nico Hulkenberg, Romain Grosjean and the remaining four teams going for two sets of medium and one of hard at their disposal.
Meanwhile, Racing Point and Williams will have the least number of soft compounds with nine as the former drivers opt for two each of medium and hard, while the latter drivers go for three medium sets and one of hard for the Monaco GP.
As the rule states, the teams get 13 set of tyres for the whole Monaco GP weekend, with one set of the softest compound to be kept by the Top 10 F1 drivers to use in Q3. After the completion of qualifying, the Top 10 drivers will have to return that set, while the other drivers can keep it for the race.
For the races, each driver has to keep one set each of the two harder compounds available for the weekend, while the rest 10 sets they are free to choose from the three available compounds for the particular driver.
