Stroll will miss Bahrain F1 test due to cycle incident

Aston Martin, Lance Stroll

Lance Stroll has been ruled out of the Bahrain F1 pre-season test after having an incident during training on a bicycle.

Much like his teammate Fernando Alonso who suffered a bicycle incident a couple of years ago while training, Aston Martin’s Stroll has done the same ahead of the 2023 F1 season which has forced him to miss this week’s Bahrain pre-season test.

As per the release, Stroll was involved in a minor accident while training on a bicycle in Spain where he also sustained injuries. He is expected regain fitness but Aston Martin notes that they will assess it on a daily basis and post an update ahead of Bahrain GP.

“I’ve had an unfortunate accident whilst training on my bike in preparation for the season,” said Stroll. ”I am determined to get back in the car and I am excited about the season ahead with the team. I am motivated to bounce back from this setback as quickly as possible.”

Here’s statement from Aston Martin: ”Whilst pre-season training on a bicycle in Spain, Lance Stroll was involved in a minor accident and sustained injuries which will result in him sitting out the pre-season test in Bahrain. Lance is however expecting a quick recovery and return to driving duties. His fitness to return to the cockpit will be assessed daily and the team will issue an update ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix. The team wishes Lance a speedy recovery and looks forward to his usual energy and commitment within the team.”

UPDATE: Aston Martin has called upon reserve driver Felipe Drugovich for Thursday’s morning session with Alonso driving in the afternoon while the details for Friday and Saturday will be announced at a later stage. The Brazilian is available this week as Stoffel Vandoorne is busy with Formula E.
