Stroll says uncompetitive AMR25 made things difficult in F1 2025

Lance Stroll, Aston Martin, F1

Lance Stroll says Aston Martin was uncompetitive for majority of F1 2025 season, with only pockets of performance and with not a quick car, they were far behind.

Unlike Fernando Alonso, Aston Martin teammate Stroll did not enjoy the F1 2025 season as much. While the Spaniard could exploit the AMR25 far better with 56 points against his name to be in the Top 10 of the drivers’ standings, the Canadian only managed 33 to be far down.

There was general lack of pace in the AMR25 as acknowledged by Alonso, but the Spaniard’s experience came handy to deliver some results when it least expected to. He even missed out on good points at certain races, which could have seen him score far more than he did.

For Stroll, he agreed that Aston Martin was uncompetitive in majority of the race weekends mostly down to lack of downforce, which is not ideal. “Not much strengths, I mean we just haven’t been competitive all year, so a few races, the cars come alive and those weekends were nice but most of the season we just haven’t been competitive and that’s been the main issue,” he said to media.

“It’s all performance, you don’t have downforce so you don’t do well,” summed up Stroll, who says they couldn’t have done much with the focus on 2026. Since F1 is a lot about the car, their hands were tied up. “No, we can’t, the focus shifted towards next year,” he continued.

“I mean in 2023, we had a good race year but the car was one of the most competitive cars we had, so this sport is all car dependent. There’s seasons you come to the tracks you’ve done well before and you have the last car and you finish 18th or 20th and some years you have a good car and you finish 5th or 6th and that’s the sport,” summed up Stroll.
