Lando Norris’s moment in the recovery room of the Spanish Grand Prix has generated controversy. Guenther Steiner, former director of the Haas Formula 1 team, has expressed his criticism towards the posture of the McLaren driver, who was seen drinking Coca-Cola after the race.
After finishing in third position at the Montmelo circuit, Norris was relaxed when an official asked him to put down the drink, due to Pepsi’s collaboration with Formula 1. In response, the 2025 champion defended himself saying: ‘I just raced, so I can drink whatever I want. Thank you.’
This incident has caught the attention of many fans, who have defended Norris on social media. However, Steiner, during The Red Flags Podcast, did not hesitate to assert that his behavior was inappropriate. ‘If you are a professional, you don’t do that. Period. You know what is acceptable and what is not. He made a mistake,’ he stated.
Steiner, when asked if his criticism was related to the Pepsi partnership with F1, added: ‘It’s a matter of categories. He was drinking Coca-Cola, and it was not the best decision for him. But, to be honest, I don’t care, because now Coca-Cola has benefited from this situation.’
Norris, who lost the lead position for a moment during a virtual safety car, now occupies fourth place in the drivers’ championship with 186 points, about 106 points behind the leader, Kimi Antonelli.
