The F1 Spanish GP was another record for Mercedes with their victory but plenty happened around them as well in the numbers game.

The Mercedes show was well and truly on as Valtteri Bottas headed Lewis Hamilton on Saturday but the roles reversed on Sunday with Hamilton eking out the win from Bottas and Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen.

The Ferrari duo couldn’t do much as Sebastian Vettel finished fourth from Charles Leclerc with Red Bull’s Pierre Gasly rounding the Top 6 while Haas’ Kevin Magnussen was best of the rest in seventh from McLaren’s Carlos Sainz.

Here’s some key statistics and information from the Spanish GP weekend:

  • Hamilton scored his 76th career F1 win and his 55th for Mercedes. It is also his fourth Spanish GP win and third consecutive since 2017. He now sits second in the Spanish GP win list with only Michael Schumacher ahead with six.
  • Mercedes took its 92nd win, its seventh in Spanish GP to tie with Lotus. It is their 49th 1-2 finish and the fifth consecutive 1-2 finish in 2019 – which is a new F1 record.
  • Hamilton scored his 139th F1 podium with Bottas his 35th and Verstappen his 24th.
  • Bottas claimed his ninth career pole for Bottas, his third consecutive in 2019. It is Mercedes’ 105th pole.
  • Hamilton’s fastest lap is the 230th for a British driver. It is his 42nd career’s fastest lap and first since 2018 US GP.
  • The five grand prix so far in 2019 has seen the same drivers finishing in the Top 5 with Mercedes scoring podium finishes in all of them.
  • Verstappen is yet to finish below Top 5 since the 2018 Hungarian GP.
  • Nico Hulkenberg gained the most positions in the race, starting from the pit lane and finishing 13th. Sainz gained the most of anyone in the points, moving from 12th to eighth.
  • The Top 6 finishing drivers also scored the six fastest laps, in the same order.
  • With no points for Racing Point and Alfa Romeo Racing, it is now only Mercedes and Ferrari who have finished all five races in points. In terms of race finishes, Mercedes, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo and Williams maintain their record after Racing Point’s DNF.
  • Haas scored its first double points finish of 2019, their first since 2018 Abu Dhabi GP.
  • Kimi Raikkonen’s record of being the only driver outside the Top 5 to score a point in every race of 2019 was broken with the 14th place finish.
  • Racing Point being a new team, it recorded its first official DNF and first double non-points finish, whereas Alfa Romeo registered its first double non-finish of 2019.
  • With Romain Grosjean now scoring, it is only Antonio Giovinazzi, George Russell and Robert Kubica to score a point in 2019.
  • Only two retirements in the race with Lance Stroll and Lando Norris – first official one’s for both in 2018 after Norris also had one in China but was still classified in 18th.
  • No penalty points were given in the whole weekend.
