Charles Leclerc led a Ferrari 1-2 in FP1 of F1 Singapore GP with Carlos Sainz in second and Max Verstappen slotting in third.
Considering it is a night event, the FP1 session as usual meant less in the overall circumstances but it was crucial for teams like AlphaTauri and McLaren who brought big updates. It was also for F1 drivers to learn the new Singapore GP layout.
It was quite smooth throughout apart from three yellow flag moments for a lizard at Turn 9, who was crossing the road. There were few drivers having to take the Turn 1 run-off which is standard practice when they come in hot in the corner.
At the front, it was a Ferrari 1-2 in FP1 of F1 Singapore GP with Charles Leclerc on top after setting a 1m33.350s lap ahead of Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz. It was Red Bull’s Max Verstappen slotting in third, who had some issues with the grip levels.
McLaren’s Lando Norris was fourth with the updates on his car as he led the Mercedes pair of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell who pushed Red Bull’s Sergio Perez to seventh after late laps from the Brackley-based F1 outfit drivers.
Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso went for a late quick lap to be only eighth, pushing AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda to ninth with the updates on his car. Alpine’s Esteban Ocon rounded out the Top 10 where Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll was 11th.
He also did a late quick lap to push Alpine’s Pierre Gasly to 12th from Williams’ Alexander Albon. Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas was 14th after setting his quick lap on the medium tyre as did his teammate Zhou Guanyu, who ended up 18th.
Haas’ Kevin Magnussen was 15th from AlphaTauri’s Liam Lawson with the other Haas of Nico Hulkenberg in 17th from Guanyu, while McLaren’s Oscar Piastri was 19th and Williams’ Logan Sargeant in 20th.
