Singapore GP: Key statistics from 2018 Formula 1 race

It was another superlative performance from Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton in the 2018 Formula 1 Singapore GP to extend his points lead over Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel.

Ferrari certainly started as favourites for the Singapore GP considering the issues Mercedes face on the twisty circuit. But every year, Mercedes managed to still chip away when their rivals faltered for various reasons.

It looked the same until Friday but there was a performance switch then on Saturday with a monstrous lap from Hamilton to take pole. The British driver then remained unbeatable on Sunday to further extend his advantage to 40 points over Vettel.

The German, on the other hand, started well to clear Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen but then conceded the position to the Dutchman and was forced to settle for third ahead of Valtteri Bottas, Kimi Raikkonen and Daniel Ricciardo.

Here’s how the race panned out from statistics point of view:

It was Hamilton’s 69th career, 48th for Mercedes and seventh of the 2018 season. It was also his fourth Singapore GP victory as he equaled Vettel’s record.
Hamilton scored his 79th career pole and seventh of the season. It was his 44th race win starting from pole.
It was Mercedes’ 83rd race win and fourth Singapore GP victory as a constructor to become the most successful manufacturer with Ferrari (3) in second.
Verstappen scored his 17th career podium, sixth in 2018 and first in Singapore. Red Bull’s 118th podium and eighth consecutive podium in Singapore.
It was Vettel’s 108th career podium, ninth in 2018 and seventh in Singapore.
Kevin Magnussen took his and Haas’ first fastest lap of their careers along with the new layout’s lap record. The Dane became the 130th driver to register a fastest lap while Haas became the 41st team for the same.
Only 19 overtakes was completed in the race with the Top 6 finishing where they started from. The last time it happened was earlier in the season in Monaco.
Fernando Alonso, Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc all gained four positions in the race – the highest of anyone in the points whereas Stoffel Vandoorne and Lance Stroll both gained six positions but failed to score points.
It was Nico Hulkenberg’s 150th race start in F1 as he finished 10th in the order.
It was also Alonso’s 308th F1 entry equaling Michael Schumacher whereas his 306th start equaling Schumacher and Jenson Button. His seventh place finish earned him three sports in the drivers’ standings.
There was only one retirement all race of Esteban Ocon on Lap 1. It is least number of car that has retired in a Singapore GP with 2013 being the next with just two cars officially where both Mark Webber and Paul di Resta were classified despite not seeing the chequered flag.
Sergio Perez’s non-Q3 run in Singapore ended on Saturday with the seventh place while his points run in Singapore also ended on Sunday. He finished every Singapore GP in points from 2011 until 2017.
Romain Grosjean, Sergey Sirotkin and Perez were all given penalty points for infractions during the race which take their tally to nine, six and five currently with Grosjean only three points away from a race ban. Also, Hulkenberg got fined for pit lane speeding in all the three practice sessions.
