The FIA has confirmed that from the 2014 Formula 1 season, the drivers will take their numbers.

This decision has been agreed in FIA Motorsport Council and Formula 1 after the their request.
Number 1 as usual, will be reserved to the champion, and the other riders can choose from the dorsal 2-99.
What happens if two drivers choose the same number? Simply selection priority, it will be given to the driver who is classified in a better position in the championship.
This system is similar to the bikes, with the difference that in the two-wheel competition, the champion, if you want, you can choose the number 1 to keep yours. In Formula 1, champion automatically takes the number 1 of the next year.
