Shane van Gisbergen, driver for Trackhouse Racing, has once again shone with a sixth position at Atlanta Motor Speedway, reaffirming himself as one of the standout competitors on this track. This performance follows his previous standout showing on the same circuit, thus marking his fourth top 10 on oval tracks in his NASCAR Cup Series career.

During the race, van Gisbergen was close to victory, battling for a podium position in the final moments, even going three wide for second place with Ryan Blaney, who ultimately won the race. Despite finishing in sixth place, the driver considered his day very satisfactory.

In a post-race interview, van Gisbergen shared his reflections on the competition: ‘It’s incredible, but my brain makes me think about what I could have done better.’ He acknowledged that the difference in performance compared to his previous experience in other motorsport disciplines is notable.

‘There is nothing that has prepared me for this type of racing,’ said van Gisbergen, who, despite his vast international experience, considers Atlanta one of his favorite circuits for its adaptability. So far, he has achieved two sixth places and one previous third place in the NASCAR O’Reilly Series on the same track.

Speaking about the race, he commented on the importance of restarts, highlighting that on a loose line, he lost positions that could have propelled him to a better finish. ‘I clearly should have been closer to the #45 on the restart,’ he said, referring to Tyler Reddick, who also finished with a good result.

Additionally, this performance positively contributes to his options for making the Chase, as he currently sits 31 points above the cut line, maintaining a competitive position for the upcoming races. With only six races remaining in the regular season, van Gisbergen is determined to keep adding points to secure his spot.

The next tests will continue at North Wilkesboro next week, where drivers will have a new opportunity to showcase their talent at one of NASCAR’s most historic tracks.
