Brazilian Sergio Sette Camara has achieved his first victory in Formula 2 in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium. He has beaten Nyck de Vriesand Luca Ghiotto after doing a great start and leading the whole race.
The start in this second FIA Formula 2 race in Spa-Francorchamps was quite exciting with a change in the lead. Sergio Sette Camara got the lead in the first turn after a great start, when he overtook Norman Nato and Roberto Merhi. The Spanish driver would fall to the fourth place after being surpassed by Nyck de Vries.
De Vries got to the second place on lap2 after easily overtaking Nato. Behind, Oliver Rowland and Charles Leclerc started a great comeback, achieving the 11th and 12th position respectively on lap3. However, during the same lap, Leclerc overtook his main rival for the title and got a great pace, overtaking drivers without trouble.
Half-way through, Artem Markelov and Antonio Fuoco were fighting for the fifth position, being the main attraction of the race at that moment. Leclerc would join the feast and would finally overtake both drivers. Luca Ghiotto overtook Roberto Merhi and Norman Nato to reach the podium. A bit later, Leclerc would end his comeback by overtaking Merhi for the fifth place.
The race ended sooner than expected after a violent crash suffered by Nobuharu Matsushita in Radillon. The Japanese crashed heavily into the barriers after losing control of his ART. The Safety Car was deployed, forcing the race to end, thus allowing Sette Camara to achieve his first win in his debut season in Formula 2. The Brazilian was followed by Nyck de Vries and Luca Ghiotto. The points-zone was occupied by: Nato, Leclerc, Merhi, Fuoco and Rowland.
FIA Formula 2 will be back next weekend (Sept. 1st-3rd) at Monza (Italy).
