It’s a double-whammy of a start. Not only has Sérgioe Sette Câmara to get used to an all new kind of vehicle – he must also acclimatise in a different world. After years of racing karts in his native Brazil and in and out of Europe, he moved to Barcelona last year to plan his next career moves. Inspired by his childhood heroes Ayrton Senna, Felipe Massa and Rubens Barrichello, Câmara is now gunning for Formula One – by enrolling in the European Formula Three Championship with German Team Motopark.
Câmara started on rented karts in his native Belo Horizonte before moving to Sao Paulo for the megalopolis’s city championship – one of the hardest-fought regional karting series all over the world. All the while, he studied at the American School of Belo Horizonte.
He then moved into the South American Karting Championship and the largest world kart championships, the SKUSA in the USA. In 2012, he got a call to join ART in the KF Junior World Championship and thus had his first taste of racing in Europe.
„It’s a mammoth task to jump straight from karts into F3,“ says Team Motopark owner Timo Rumpfkeil, „but it can be done. We as a team have got all the means to make sure he learns his ropes as quickly as possible. Our engineers haven taken Sette under the wings and are working full-time with him – in the simulator as well as over the data and onboard videos.
He has proven that he’s quick enough to cut the mustard – and he’s got the brain capacity to learn fast and adapt himself, too. Sure, 2015 is bound to be his apprenticeship. But he’s got what it takes to make his way, and we will play our part in that.“
Sérgio Sette Câmara: “I am very happy to make this announcement with the Motopark team. I was very well received by Mr. Timo Rumpfkeil, owner of the team, as well as by each member of this team who seem, really, a big family.
I am proceeding for another challenge in my career, but with the certainty that I will be supported by a number of professionals trained and able to offer the best in terms of the European F3.
I want to learn a lot this season and, gradually, show my potential and get my space between the great names of the sport.”
