Scott McLaughlin will have to fight back from last position after an accident in Arlington qualifying

Scott McLaughlin, Team Penske driver, faces a significant challenge after an accident during qualifying for the new Grand Prix of Arlington. His plans to secure a good position on the grid were dealt a blow during the second qualifying session when, with only two minutes remaining, he collided with the walls in turn 8, leaving his car with significant damage to the front left.

Despite the setback, McLaughlin will not need a backup car, unlike his teammate, Josef Newgarden, who did so after an accident during the second practice. The New Zealand driver, who had led the first practice on Friday, will start the race from the last position (25th) on a 14-turn, 2.73-mile circuit.

In comments during FOX Sports’ broadcast, McLaughlin acknowledged his disappointment but remains hopeful for the competition. “I knew it was likely to happen,” he said. “The DEX Chevy was very fast, I just turned a little too early and hit the inside wall.” Nevertheless, the driver is optimistic and believes in his chances during the race, thanks to the availability of new sets of tires.

“We will have plenty of tires and a very fast car. We won’t give up,” he added. With this attitude, McLaughlin is determined to fight from the back of the pack and deliver an exciting show during the race.
