DTM announced that Mick Schumacher will get his first taste of the touring car during this weekend’s Nurburgring round.
Schumacher Jr will complete few demonstration laps in the Mercedes-AMG Race-Taxi for his first-ever run in a DTM car on Friday this weekend at Nurburgring after ITR chairman Gerhard Berger offered him the opportunity to drive a DTM car.
The statement from the organisers of the championship read: “On the Friday of DTM’s Nurburgring race meeting, Mick Schumacher will go out for just a few demonstration laps in the Mercedes-AMG Race-Taxi.
“ITR Chairman Gerhard Berger offered the son of seven-time F1 World Champion Michael Schumacher the opportunity to do a few demonstration laps in a DTM car during the course of the race weekend.
“For the 19-year old German it will be the first outing in the cockpit of a touring car.” The son of seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael, currently races in the FIA European Formula 3 Championship with Prema Powerteam.
“The German had a slow start to his second year in the series but has since picked up well. The 19-year-old has won three races at Spa-Francorchamps, Silverstone and Misano in the last three rounds with two pole positions as well.
The recent results has enabled him to jump to fourth in the drivers’ standings with 186 points. He sits 36 points behind championship leader Red Bull junior and Motopark’s Dan Ticktum with three rounds remaining in the 2018 season.
Recent reports suggests that Schumacher has DTM and FIA Formula 2 Championship in his mind for 2019 as he inches closer to F1. The German has significantly opened to the media in recent times as he spoke about his dad’s influence on his career.
