Mick Schumacher got the chance to drive Michael’s Ferrari F2002 F1 car at Fiorano, the car which is to be auctioned during Abu Dhabi GP weekend by RM Sotheby’s.
F1 had announced the auction ceremony for the Abu Dhabi GP weekend at Yas Marina Circuit in association with RM Sotheby’s, where Schumacher Sr’s title-winning Ferrari F2002 car was put up as the highlighted attraction to be auctioned.
Schumacher Sr secured his fifth world championship driving the #219 chassis Ferrari F2002 car in 2002, with 11 wins and podiums in all the 17 races. The historic F1 car was recently driven by his son Mick at Fiorano for a film shot by RM Sotheby’s for the auction.
It was also the first time in a F1 car for the German racer at Ferrari’s test track. The car is put up in the $5.5-7.5 million bracket for the auction, as part of the winning bid will be donated to Schumacher’s Keep Fighting and Never Give Up Foundation.
“Bringing together Mick and the F2002 was a special moment for everyone involved, as well as an historic moment for both F1 and Ferrari,” said Oliver Camelin, Car Specialist at RM Sotheby’s. “To witness Michael’s son in this incredible car at the home of Scuderia Ferrari was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and truly underlined the significance of the F2002 to Michael and Ferrari’s racing legacy.”
In addition to Schumacher Sr’s Ferrari F2002, another of his F1 car is put up for sale. It is the 1992 Benetton B192, in which the German finished on the podium in Germany and Italy. The car is put up in the $825,000 and $1.1m bracket.
The third F1 car up for grabs is the 1982 Ferrari 126 C2 which is put up in the $2m – $2.5m bracket. The chassis 061 is the sole surviving model of the seven originally built. The car was driven by Patrick Tambay to several podiums which included a win in Germany.
