Sato completes Campos Racing driver line-up

The Japanese driver arrives to Alzira-based squad to team up with Arthur Pic, confirmed last January. They both will be a strong driver line-up for Campos Racing return to GP2

The Japanese driver Kimiya Sato joins Campos Racing and completes its driver line-up for 2014, when the team led by Adrián Campos is back to GP2, the series on the verge of Formula 1. Sato, born in Hyōgo on October 5, 1989, is one of the most promising racing drivers from the Land of the Rising Sun. Sato started his career in Formula BMW, participating in different international series of the German manufacturer, and later he took the step of racing in the Japanese Formula 3 championship, being vice-champion on his debut. For the next season, in 2010, Sato also took part in the Japanese F3 championship, and the following year he debuted in the Formula 3 Euro Series. He was able to finish 3rd in the German series in 2012 and finally, last year, he was vice-champion in Auto GP, claiming five wins and nine podiums, an excellent background to approach GP2 this season.

In that regard Adrián Campos, Team Principal of Campos Racing, has commented that “I am delighted to have Kimya with us this season. I do believe he will make a leap forward in the quality, despite he has an excellent record in previous categories. Without any shadow of a doubt we will do a great job with him. We shall give the maximum support to Kimiya, to get the targets which we all set out. I would like to thank Taki Inoue and Vincenzo Sospiri for the faith placed in us. I know them for years, and they are experienced people. Campos Racing will honor the confidence vested in us”.

On the other hand Sato has said: “I’m very happy to be joining Campos Racing and to be entering the GP2 Championship with them this season. GP2 was always the logical next step for me after finishing 2nd in the Auto GP Championship last year and I am very pleased that we have been able to reach an agreement with a top team like Campos. They have a successful history in GP2 and the team is very professional and experienced and I know that they will give me the support I need to make a good impression this year. I’m really looking forward to working with Adrian and his team – already we have a very good feeling and I think it really helps to have a team boss who has been a successful driver himself and can better understand things from the drivers’ point of view. Right now I am training hard and really looking forward to visit its headquarters in Alzira, on Tuesday, and start our work plan before leaving to Abu Dhabi”.

With Campos Racing having confirmed its two drivers, Sato and Pic, the pre-season testing officially starts on March 11-12-13 in Abu Dabi. Then, a week later, second collective test in Bahrain for GP2.
