Takuma Sato has achieved his second Verizon P1 Award after being the last to complete a lap in the Chevrolet Detroit Dual and getting the track record after Hinchcliffe and Castroneves had done this before.
The second qualifying of the weekend for Indycar this time was divided into only two groups.
Everything began with a non-accidented session where James Hinchcliffe (Andretti Autosport) achieved the circuit record with 1:16.3739.
But the most important was in Group 2 where Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) caused a red flagwith only 9 minutes left after hitting the wall. With 5 minutes to go, the action started again with an impressive Castroneves (Team Penske) who made the best time ever seen in this circuit with a 1:16.3624 but Takuma Sato (AJ Foty) could, on the last lap and with the checkered flag on the track, beat two tenths this time, getting his second “Verizon P1 Award” of the year .
