Logan Sargeant has selected his race number for his debut F1 season in 2023 as the #2 returns to the grid.
Having only secured enough superlicense points in the final F2 round of 2022 season, Sargeant had his F1 debut confirmed with Williams alongside Alexander Albon. The British team revealed their intentions of hiring the American racer pending the finale.
He was in a good space to earn it but the pressure did get to him. It ended up well for him as he becomes the first American since Alexander Rossi in F1. Sargeant had his first run as an official driver in Abu Dhabi post the 2022 season in preparation for 2023.
Taking another step towards being a F1 driver, Sargeant has selected ‘2’ as his race number. It became available to be used from 2022 onward after Stoffel Vandoorne last used it during the 2017 and 2018 seasons, with the three-year rule ending in 2021.
Other debutants AlphaTauri’s Nyck de Vries and McLaren’s Oscar Piastri have yet to officially confirm their race numbers as the 2023 F1 season will see 27 returning as well with the return of Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg.
